Calculate the amount and compound interest on Rs 8,000 for 1 year at 9% per annum compounded half yearly.

Here P = Rs 8000, T = 1 year, R = 9% p.a.

Interest is compounded half yearly,

∴ T = 1 year = 2 half years

R = 9% p.a.= $9 over 2 %$ half yearly

∵         Amount = $straight P open parentheses 1 plus straight R over 100 close parentheses to the power of straight n$

                     = Rs 8000 $cross times$ $open parentheses 1 plus 9 over 200 close parentheses squared$

                     = Rs. $8000 cross times 209 over 200 cross times 209 over 200 equals Rs fraction numerator 2 cross times 209 cross times 209 over denominator 10 end fraction$

                     = Rs $87362 over 10 space equals space Rs space 8736.20$

             CI = Rs 8736.20 - Rs 8000

                     = Rs 736.20
